Some super good typography,

I’ve always been a sucker for typography, even when I was young. In high school art classes I always ended up putting words/lettering into my projects. Its just some sort of an identifier for me. Letters are pretty cool.. anyhow. Here are some seriously amazing pieces of typography that I’ve gathered up for you guys from all over on the interwebs..just kidding, these are all from Behance. 🙂

School Smooool

Hi!

Long time no posts… sorry about that. I need to borrow a scanner from my friend Zach so I can get some more film up here. & probably a lot of other random things I’ve not done till recently because this year has been weird.

Signing up for classes soon at UWF.

Merp.

Okay bye.

I should be sleeping

Instead I scanned in one of my pieces for an article spread I’m doing for my portfolio. Here’s to my homeland.

Thats the U.P. of Michigan. I am a yooper turned well, whatever the heck I am.

Anyways, I doodled this up, fell in love with it, and changed some projects around.

But like the title says, I should be asleep. So, have a nice evening…my caffeine from this evening finally wore off..

Peace.

Find what relaxes you, I’m still looking.

A few years ago one of my professors told the class about how essentially we all need to find something that relaxes us, for him, the answer to that was ceramics. When I think about that, I feel as if whatever that thing is, that your focus does not need to be “I have to be awesome at this, so I can sell them for thousands of dollars.” I feel like you should go at it in a way that allows you to relax. Knowing you’re going to spend money on supplies that you probably wont ever get reimbursed for is a good starting point. If you are looking at it as a way to supplement your income, trust me – you wont relax while doing it. Also, if its something you are absolutely terrible at, you are going to stress about it, and therefore probably suck at it more, and stress more – and incase you were not aware, stress is the opposite of our goal here.

So with that said, I’ve been admiring various artists on my tumblr feed who are spectacular oil painters, I cant get over how happy looking at these pieces of art make me. One thing I have noticed is that the color theory that is involved in painting with oils – at least in the very abstract, loose way of painting that I greatly admire – lends its self well to the vector work that I do. Being able to properly shade a face, or even just place color where it looks nice is a pretty important factor to building vectors.

The reason I’m leaning towards oils is because a very very long time ago that was my great-grandfathers medium of choice. I’ve been told he is one of the key people in my family tree who had a large amount of artistic ability. Actually, thinking back, I have a lot of creatives in my family tree, but when it comes to fine art, he’s pretty much the only person I can think of.

Now if only paint was not so dang expensive, maybe I could pick this hobby up quicker than I’ll probably be able to.. I’ve asked a few different people on tumblr which brand of paints they recommend, and I had a good selection to choose from.. I need to make a list of colors that I need to start off, and just go from there. I’ll link to my DickBlick list and if anyone has any input on colors, feel free to comment on this blog post! It would be very much appreciated!!

After throwing together this list, I’ve come to the conclusion I’ll probably die a lonely soul, but with a lot of paint.Â
